Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Her

This is one of those holidays people seem to usually dread. You don't meet expectations... someone does way more than the other... nothing gets done at all... etc, etc. I view it as a day to show someone you love how much they mean to you (although I don't think that should be reserved to just one day of the year). This can be done so simply, or extravagantly - depends on your preference. It's one day out of the year people, it's not all that bad! If you're single, go grab dinner, do wine night or do a spa day with a girlfriend. It can be just as fun and special!

Below are some gift ideas for her if you're looking to get her a little something special... If you're not into physical gifts, I've also listed a few ideas for things you two could do together!

Although most of my specific selections below apply to all you New Yorkers, the idea can be used anywhere you may live!

  • Massage or spa treatment. I love to look at Gilt City and LivingSocial for some great deals on massages or facials!
  • Weekend getaway: If you're in the NYC area, there are a TON of fun places you can go for a day trip or to stay over night. You can find lists of some great getaway ideas here and here. I highly recommend Woodstock, NY; the Berkshires; a day trip to Cold Springs; Manchester, VT; Newport, RI; or the Connecticut area. And of course, check out Gilt City for hotel deals!
  • Dinner at a nice restaurant: A few of my favorite romantic spots are Peasant, Little Prince, L'Artusi, Bar Ciccio, Tartinery, The Musket Room, Sel Rrose, Hudson Clearwater, Louro, ABC, Upland and Aria.
  • Movie night: This new theater would be so fun to check out!
  • Concert tickets: The Bowery Ballroom is a great pick!

Gift Guide for Him

2nd installment of the gift guide is here! This time around, it's for the guys. Above, I picked out some of my top favorite things. A lot of them are classic pieces that you'll see year to year, including this Barbour jacket. I just love it! Below are some ideas depending on the type of man you're buying for and how much you want to spend. Looking to splurge? Is he a skier, or a big workout addict? I've covered all the bases!

~Splurge~

Looking to spend a little extra this season? Here are a few great picks if you really want to spoil your guy. That leather duffel is seriously gorgeous...

~For the Outdoorsy Dude~

Does he enjoy hiking, biking, or other outdoor activities? Is he a skier or snowboarder? Or does he just like to dress like a lumberjack? Backcountry.com has some great options that cover every out door sport. The GoPro will be a popular gift yet again this year too.

~For the Active Man~

For the guy who loves the gym, going for a run, or playing sports, this is the section. I love the fitbit as a gift. Anybody at any age could get some use out of one of those. Outdoor Voices is another newish brand that I'm pretty obsessed with too - they make casual lounge/active wear that feels amazing and isn't too over priced!

~For the Stylish Stud~

For the man who loves to shop as much as you do...

I didn't do one of these last year, a gift guide for the little ones, because the thought didn't even seem to cross my mind. Now, a full year later (really, not that much time), half the people I know either seem to be having children or are expecting. What is happening here!?! Anyway. Throughout my search while making this gift guide, I discovered the J.Crew pretty much tops every site with cutest baby and kids clothes. That reindeer onsie? I'm absolutely obsessed. The baby photos on the site are beyond cute also...

When I was younger, there were some staples I had, that I think every baby/child should have at some point in their life. Steiff stuffed animals have been around forever. I have quite the collection of their bears and such, and still have my favorite Steiff leopard from way back when. They are amazing quality, and something that any child will have forever - and pass on down to their children. Saks has a great assortment of them available. The Polar Express book is another one. It's a classic. Grab them the movie to go along with it while you're at it! As for clothing, I came home in the Patagonia fleece onsie (kind of like this one) from the hospital, so I'd highly recommend their baby and kids clothes. This little down sweater is just beyond cute - you could always do the mom/baby set and grab them both one!
